Shirodhara Is A Classic Ayurvedic Body Treatment

 

Ayurveda is an ancient science based on the principles of balancing and harmonizing the five elements of our bodies. In Ayurveda, the entire world around us is made up of five elements: Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Our bodies are also made of the same five elements. Harmonizing the elements of the body with nature gives us a healthy body, happy mind and flawless skin. ‘Shiro’ in Sanskrit means head or forehead region and ‘dhara’ means a continuous flow, so Shirodhara translates to a continuous flow of herb infused oil on the forehead.

 

Rejuvenating Oil Stream Treatment

 

Oil is poured over the forehead, as this area has a large number of nerve endings and therefore is highly sensitive. Vibrations are created on the forehead by the pressure of the oil. The oil penetrates into the nervous system after saturating the forehead and scalp. The oils used in this procedure improve blood circulation to the brain by vasodilating all the channels. It also helps to reduce the level of stress hormones like adrenaline and nor-adrenaline and therefore provides respite from anxiety and related disorders. The entire procedure enables the body, mind and nervous system to experience a state of deep rest, similar to the state a person arrives at after meditation.
